Summary Background:

The City contracted with Probolsky Research in 2024 to conduct a Resident Satisfaction Survey in the incorporated City of Hyattsville. The intent of the survey was to better understand concerns and opinions of City residents, and to monitor trends over time.

The City’s Communications staff coordinated with Probolsky Research and City Department Directors to build a 60-question survey that was distributed to City residents in January 2025. While some questions reflected new City programs or priorities, others were repeat questions from past surveys so satisfaction levels could be benchmarked against responses collected in 2018 and 2015.

Survey participants were selected at random based on available demographic information. The research team sought responses from a sample of the population that proportionally represented City Wards, ages, income levels, and other demographics per the 2020 Census. Surveys were mailed, with the option to complete by paper, online, by phone, or text message. To ensure an accurate distribution of results across demographics, some households received follow-up calls or texts from researchers encouraging them to participate. Surveys and response methods were available in English and Spanish.

Data collection was completed at the end of February 2025, and 605 results were analyzed. The full presentation and final report are available at hyattsville.org/survey.

Next Steps:

Following the presentation to Council, City Communications staff will publicize the survey results through the City’s print and digital communications. The survey report is available to the public at hyattsville.org/survey.

City staff will be reviewing the data in greater detail to guide decision making on departmental programs and priorities.

Fiscal Impact:

The City contracted with Probolsky Research in FY 25 following an RFP selection process. The total cost of the contract was $34,900. The City budgeted $35,000 for the project.

City Administrator Comments:
