Summary Background:
A public hearing on the recommendations from the 2022 Redistricting Commission will be held at 6 PM on Monday, October 17. After public comment there will be an opportunity for a short Council discussion during which initial feedback or questions for the Redistricting Commission may be shared. Additional time for a longer Council discussion of the proposed maps has been allocated in the discussion agenda of the Council Meeting of October 17. The goal of the discussion is for the Council to determine which map should move forward in the process and identify any areas which may require further evaluation from the Redistricting Commission.
Changing the ward boundaries requires a Charter Amendment. City Council will need to select the final Ward boundary map by November 7, 2022. A Public Hearing on the proposed Charter Amendment Resolution is tentatively scheduled for November 21, 2022, with adoption of the Resolution on December 5.
Next Steps:
Upon adoption of the new ward boundaries, City staff will conduct a public outreach campaign on the new boundaries prior to the Spring 2023 City Election.
