Summary Background:
The City of Hyattsville requires a permit for any work within the City ROW. In 2018 the City Council passed emergency legislation requiring any installation of 5G tower be reviewed and approved under specific City standards and regulations. There are pending permits from 5G vendors currently being processed by Prince Georges County DPIE. Ms. Michelle Lyons Chair of the Telecommunications Transmission and Facility Coordination Committee (TTFCC)will be presenting to Council on the status of 5G tower permits and regulations. The TTFCC is responsible for encouraging co-location of telecommunications on existing structures and minimizing the community impact of new telecommunications facilities by promoting alternative sites and techniques to mitigate visual impact.
Next Steps:
There will be continued internal review of existing polices, permitting, and procedures surrounding all 5G permit requests and subsequent installations.
