Summary Background:
The department recently retired our beloved patrol canine Dino after many years of dedicated service. The 2024 budget included the purchase of a new canine. We have been partnering with Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) to identify a dog that will alert on illegal substances other than cannabis in accordance with MD State law. PGPD is working with High Drive K-9 via Safeware, Inc. to evaluate potential dogs who can serve our community. Additionally, PGPD conducts our canine training, so it is beneficial to purchase canines that they have evaluated for performance prior to purchase. If we can secure a new dog, we will be among the first, along with PGPD to have dogs that do not alert on cannabis.
