Agreement with Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA)

end

Suggested Action:

recommendation

I move that Mayor and Council authorize the City Administrator to enter into an agreement between the City of Hyattsville and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) for secondary employment for HPD officers, upon the review and approval by the City Attorney for legal sufficiency.

end

Summary Background:

In an effort to reduce crime and increase security around metro stations, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking additional support.  Hyattsville Police Officers currently cover and respond to the areas around Hyattsville’s two metro stations, and this will allow them to expand their role to support WMATA on a voluntary overtime basis.  Officers who choose to work overtime will be able to participate. An MOU agreement between the City of Hyattsville and WMATA will allow HPD to be reimbursed for overtime worked in the area of Hyattsville’s two metro stations. The City will be reimbursed by WMATA at $60.00 per hour.
