I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the City Administrator to purchase a 2023 E-Transit Cargo Van from Upper Marlboro Ford for an expenditure not to exceed $62,000 and a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado from Sport Automotive for an expenditure not to exceed $65,000. Summary Background:

The Department of Public Works has been working over the past several years to upgrade the fleet. A number of vehicles in the fleet are up to 16 years old, far exceeding the typical 5-7 year lifespan for a fleet vehicle. In addition over the past several years staffing has grown putting pressure on the Department to field enough vehicles to fulfill staff missions. This is best seen in the Facilities Maintenance staff, for which the E-Transit Van is being Requested. With the completion of the 3505 Hamilton St project and the Teen Center project slated for 2024 the amount of square footage under management will increase by nearly 200%. Staffing has been increases over the past fiscal year, now the fleet needs to be increased to accommodate this staff. DPW is excited that the E-Tranist van is available, allowing the City to increase it’s electric vehicle portfolio. Staff would prefer to also purchase an electric truck, unfortunately they will not be widely available until 2024 or 2025. These vehicle purchases were included in the FY24 Capital Improvement Plan budget adopted by Council in June.
