Truck Rentals for FY24
end
Suggested Action:
recommendation
I move that the Mayor and Council authorize an expenditure not to exceed $75,000 to United Rentals for the continued rental of pickup trucks and dump trucks for FY24, utilizing the Sourcewell Collective Purchasing Agreement #062320-URI.
end
Summary Background:
Truck of all sizes continue to experience extensive lead times, of up to 24 months, when looking to purchase a variety of models. While improvement have been seen in the availability of repair parts, some still have lengthy lead times. To assist the Department in providing various services to residents United Rentals has provided several trucks through monthly rentals. These rentals have allowed trucks to spend extended time out of service while waiting for parts to become available. In addition, short term rental of dump trucks with plows and salt spreaders will be used during FY24 to augment the City’s fleet of plow and salt trucks this winter. The rental trucks provide the department with the equipment needed when it is needed without requiring a large up front Capital investment. While the Department has and will continue to request capital vehicle purchases, the rentals provide a critical stop gap.
Next Steps:
Issue purchase order and continue rental reservations
