I move that the City Council reschedule the Public Hearing for Traffic Calming on Lancer Drive from Monday, May 2, 2022, to Monday, May 16 at 6:00 PM. The public hearing will be held in order to consider public testimony regarding a Traffic Calming Petition submitted for the 3400 & 3500 blocks of Lancer Drive, located in Ward 5. Additionally, the public hearing will hear testimony on two additional traffic calming petitions received for 3500 block of Longfellow Street and 4900 block of 41st Place.

Summary Background:
The City received a petition for traffic calming device(s) for the 3400 - 3500 blocks of Lancer Drive on February 9, 2022. Petitions were received for the 3500 block of Longfellow Street on March 17 and for the 4900 block of 41st Place on March 21. All petitions have been validated by the City Clerk's office to meet the required 60% signature threshold.
Per Section 114-8 of the Hyattsville Charter and Code, the City will conduct traffic studies to determine if a traffic calming device is in the interests of best traffic engineering practice and public safety.
The public hearing for Lancer Drive was originally scheduled for May 2, however the City's traffic counters have been unavailable due to needed upgrades from 3G to 5G technology. Additionally, the Public Hearing on the Real Property Tax Rate has been scheduled for May 2. DPW has determined that it will use traffic counters from its on-call contract with Pennoni to expedite the studies required for the three active petitions. The public hearing on May 16 will consider testimony on all three active petitions.
