Summary Background:
In 2020 the City was awarded a Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Cities grant, awarded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust, in the amount of $15,000 to develop a concept for an “environmental depot”. The City appropriated the funding in the fall of 2021, and staff have been working with our partners at the Low Impact Development Center to develop a concept that incorporates existing oil and coolant recycling, expands electronics and food scrap collections, as well as a number of potential programs that could divert a number of other resources from the waste stream. In addition, this concept has space for public and educational events and activities.
Next Steps:
Complete the concept and apply for additional funding to move into design, acquisition, and construction of a depot.
