recommendation

I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the City Administrator to accept the Chesapeake Bay Trust Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Cities Grant, in an amount of $15,000 for the design of a “green alley” project for the renovation of alleys 26A and 26B. In addition, the Treasurer is authorized to appropriate the funds accordingly to meet the requirements of the grant.

Summary Background:

In the Fall of 2020, due to the state of disrepair and the number of pedestrians observed using alleys 26A and 26B between 43rd Ave and Baltimore Avenue, City staff began looking at options for the design and funding of a “green alley” to replace the deteriorated asphalt and to serve as a model for future projects. Working with the Low Impact Design Center a preliminary concept was discussed, and several grant applications were submitted, resulting in this award.

Next Steps:

Awarding grant funding to complete the design.

Fiscal Impact:

$15,000
