recommendation
I move that the Mayor and Council accept the staff recommendation to install a yield street at the petition location(s) on the 6000 block of 43rd Street and the 4000 block of Nicholson Street.

Summary Background:
On October 7, 2024, City staff presented the result of 3 traffic calming petition requests for the installation of speed humps. After a professional analysis of the requests the staff recommendation was to deny the requests for speed humps on the 6000 block of 43rd Street and the 4000 block of Nicholson Street, as each location did not meet the safety or geometry criteria for the installation of a speed hump. At the October 21st Council meeting the Council authorized additional time for staff to consider other traffic calming options in response to the petition requests. Utilizing the Hyattsville Multimodal Toolkit as adopted by the City in September 2023 is the staff recommendation that yield streets would be a more appropriate traffic calming treatment given the geometry of the blocks in question.
Next Steps:
Adopt the staff’s recommendations and implement a yield street.
