Suggested Action:

recommendation

I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the City Administrator to accept the proposal from the Low Impact Design Center for the design of the Green Alley renovation of public alleys 26A and 26B, and expend an amount not to exceed $51,702.00 under their existing contract.

end

Summary Background:

In the Summer of 2020, the Department of Public Works began the cleanup of alleys 26A and 26B, between 44th Avenue and Baltimore Avenue. It was noticed that the alley was used primarily as a pedestrian walkway between Baltimore Avenue and the neighborhood. Staff felt this was a good candidate to be a converted to a green alley and working in partnership with the Low Impact Design Center, submitted the project to several grant programs for the funding of the design. The City was awarded and accepted two (2) grants, the Chesapeake Bay Trust Stormwater Stewardship Grant for $36,702 and the Chesapeake Bay trust Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Cities grant for $15,000.

Next Steps:

Issue a purchase order to begin the design work.

Fiscal Impact:

$51,702
