Suggested Action:

I move that the Mayor and Council amend the FY 20 budget to accept and appropriate the Maryland Smart Energy Communities Grant in the amount of $50,000 toward the design and installation of a roof top solar photovoltaic system on the new Public Works building, and authorize the City Administrator to enter into an agreement to receive such funds.

Summary Background:

In the fall of 2019 the Maryland Energy Administration received applications for grant funding from existing Maryland Smart Energy Communities. Hyattsville has received grants in FY13, 14, 17, and 18 for a variety of projects including the purchase of an electric police car. For fiscal year 2020 the City sent in a number of grant applications to expand it’s use of electric vehicles and increase solar power production. In May of 2020 the City was notified that is was awarded a grant of $50,000 towards the design and installation of a roof top solar photovoltaic system on the new Public Works building.

Solicit the design and installation of the system.
