I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the City Administrator to enter into an agreement to purchase an Electric Refuse Truck. The chassis will be purchased from BYD Motors, LLC for an amount not to exceed $280,000 and the body will be purchased from Curbtender, Inc. for an amount not to exceed $100,000, with a total expenditure not to exceed $380,000.00 pending legal review.

Summary Background:
As part of the commitment to the Hyattsville Community Sustainability Plan staff have been working to reduce the use of fossil fuels and promote electric vehicles in the City. The City currently has 4 electric vehicles and continues to pursue opportunities to add even more to the fleet. The City has been a frequent recipient of Maryland Energy Administration Smart Energy Communities Grants over the past several years. In the spring of 2020 the City was awarded another grant of $50,000 towards the purchase of an electric refuse truck. After researching the available options staff decided to pursue the electric truck body produced by BYD Motors, LLC and the body sold and installed by Curbtender, Inc. This option provided the best truck available to the City as the best price available.

Complete the order of the truck and arrange for delivery.
Fiscal Impact:
Not to exceed $380,000.00. $50,000 provided by a grant from MEA.
