Summary Background:
In 2017, the City of Hyattsville obtained funding from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Community Resiliency Grant Program to address flooding within the City of Hyattsville Ward 1 area. This includes the area surrounding Hyattsville’s Department of Public Works facility, the CSX railroad, and some older neighborhood communities with dead end and/or cul-de-sacs. The area is situated near the confluence of the Northeast and Northwest branches of the Anacostia River. Existing grey stormwater infrastructure is limited, and localized flooding is common after storm events. Some of the recommendations of the study include:
• Estimated flood reduction and water quality benefits of the identified retrofit projects.
• Assigned values based on localized flood reduction and water quality improvement benefits for each project.
• Prepared perspective drawings for three BMPs.
• Finalized the stormwater retrofit improvements plan, that identifies and prioritizes green and grey solutions.
Findings presented by Low Impact Development Center.
