Suggested Action:

recommendation

I move that the Mayor and Council appropriate $10,000 as a donation to Central Kenilworth Avenue Revitalization Community Development Corporation (CKAR CDC, Inc) and, in conjunction with Route One Community Cares (ROCC), provide meals to those facing hunger in our local area. This motion replaces the motion passed on December 7, 2020 (HCC-113-FY21)

end

Summary Background:

On December 7, 2020, the Council adopted motion HCC-113-FY21, authorizing a donation to Route One Community Cares (ROCC). In the administrative review process, it was determined that the donation needed to be distributed to Central Kenilworth Avenue Revitalization Community Development Corporation (CKAR CDC) for dispersion to ROCC.

Central Kenilworth Avenue Revitalization Community Development Corporation (CKAR CDC) is a community non-profit CDC that provides assistance to various groups like Route One Community Cares (ROCC) to provide meals to those facing hunger in our local area. ROCC is made up of volunteer residents who have been working with the adjacent communities of Hyattsville, College Park, Riverdale, and University Park to address two issues: feeding those in need and utilizing local restaurants to provide meals. Utilizing local restaurants helps support local businesses that have been impacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

These funds will be transferred from a portion of the unspent funds previously appropriated for Hyattsville Pandemic Relief funding administered by Employ Prince George's.

For additional details, see the attachment.

Next Steps:

Upon the approval of funding, the City shall direct these funds to Central Kenilworth Avenue Revitalization Community Development Corporation.

Fiscal Impact:

$10,000 increase to the FY-21 Special Revenues Budget.
