Suggested Action:

recommendation

I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the City Administrator to enter into an agreement with the Capital Area Food Bank for the weekly receipt and distribution of non-perishable food boxes through June 2021, in support of the City’s efforts to provide food to families in need during COVID-19.

end

Summary Background:

Since May of 2020, the City has been coordinating with Prince George’s County Council Member Deni Taveras to provide food to families in need during COVID-19. The Capital Area Food Bank has been delivering 600-900 boxes of non-perishable food to the Park on a weekly basis to support these efforts. With the assistance of staff and volunteers, the boxes are provided to families who drive through or walk to the Park. This agreement will allow for the continued service through June 2021, as available. The boxes contain such items as canned fruits and vegetables, shelf stable milk, cereal, juice, tuna fish and peanut butter, and are provided at no charge to the City or the recipients.
