New DPW Facility - Electric Truck Charging Station Installation

Suggested Action:

recommendation

I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the City Administrator to enter into an agreement with Ennis Electric Company, Inc. for the turnkey installation of the electric charging station for the new electric trash truck, for an authorized expenditure not to exceed $40,000.

end

Summary Background:

In August of 2020, the City Council authorized the purchase of an electric trash truck. At the time the purchase was authorized, the new Department of Public Works (DPW) building project was at a point where it was not cost effective to change the plans and include the charger installation as part of the project. Now that the building is scheduled to be put into service in April of 2021, and the truck is scheduled to be delivered in late spring or early summer 2021, staff received estimates from several companies for the installation of the charger. Ennis Electric Company was the only proposal that included required engineering documents, permits, and required concrete and safety devices.

Next Steps:

Complete the agreement and schedule installation.

Fiscal Impact:

NTE $40,000

City Administrator Comments:

Recommend Approval. The staff will continue to seek grants to offset cost of the charging station.
