Purchase of Two Commercial Buses for Senior Services Program
end

Suggested Action:
recommendation
I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the City Administrator, as part of its executed agreement with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), to purchase two (2) wheelchair accessible buses from Sonny Merryman in an amount not to exceed $48,000.00.
end

Summary Background:
The Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program, administered by COG, provides funding for transportation for people with disabilities and older adults who have difficulty using public transit or need improved access to it. The program's matched funds (capital and operational) will enable the City to enhance its vehicle fleet with the purchase of two (2) wheelchair accessible buses and offer expanded mobility services that will reduce transportation disparities that impede community members' access to medical care, nutrition and food, and opportunities to participate in social and recreational activities. Providing mobility options for travel that are accessible, affordable and safe, and promoting information about the availability of these services, can enhance the health and well-being, independence, and civic and social inclusion of our City's older adults and residents with disabilities. The City's total budget for vehicle acquisition is $120,403; the vehicle order quote from Sonny Merryman totals $143,482. The City's contribution to the vehicle acquisition, which is 20% of the total grant award amount for vehicle acquisition line items, is $24,080.60. Combined with the $23,079.00 overage, the total cost for the City will be $47,159.60.

Next Steps:
Finalize a purchase order for the buses and arrange for their delivery.

Fiscal Impact:
Not to exceed $48,000.00. $96,322.40 of the total vehicle acquisition cost is being provided by the FTA gra...
