Resolution 2021-04:  Maryland DHCD Community Legacy FY2022 Application

Suggested Action:

I move that the Mayor and Council adopt Hyattsville Resolution 2021-04, a Resolution of the City of Hyattsville, Maryland in support of the City's application to the State of Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for grant funding to support the City's Commercial Façade Improvement Program to be further described in the Community Legacy application.

Summary Background:

The Community Legacy Grant funding is administered by the Maryland DHCD and provides local governments and community development organizations with funding for projects focused on strengthening communities through activities such as business retention and attraction, encouraging home ownership, and commercial revitalization.

 

Next Steps:

Staff will prepare and submit an application to the State of Maryland DHCD.

 

Fiscal Impact:

Any awarded grant funding will require acceptance by the City Council and will be reflected in the FY-2023 City Budget - Special Revenue.

Recommend support.

 

Community Engagement:

As a State of Maryland designated Sustainable Community, the City is eligible to apply for Community Legacy grant funds as well as other State funding programs authorized under the Sustainable Communities Act of 2010. In order for a project to be eligible for funding it must be located in a geographic area designated by the Governor’s Smart Growth Subcabinet and must support the plan that has been approved by the Smart Growth Subcabinet as a Sustainable Community Plan.
