Teen & Multi-Generational Center - Acceptance of Design Proposal

I move that the Mayor and Council authorize the City Administrator to accept the design proposal from The Matthews Group for an expenditure not to exceed $60,000 for the design of the Teen Center.

Summary Background:
In 2019 the City purchased the property at 5812 40th Ave to become the new Hyattsville Teen Center. City staff have been working to develop a concept for the interior of the building. City staff have been working with Gordian, a job order contracting provider, to provide a full turnkey design, permitting, and build renovation. The Matthews Group is Gordian’s local partner contractor. To estimate the costs of the project more accurately, it has been divided into a design portion and the build-out portion. This Council motion covers only the design portion.
Next Steps:
Complete the design and bring the build estimate to Council for approval.

City Administrator Comments:
Recommend Approval. The City has been successful in obtaining grant funds to cover a large portion of the costs of the design and build-out. This is an exciting opportunity for our teens.
