Summary Background:
In the Fall of 2020, due to the need to site and reconstruct an appropriate oil and coolant collection facility at the Department of Public Works (DPW) yard, City staff began looking at options for the design and funding of an “environmental depot” to serve as a one-stop shop for the collection and recycling of oil and coolant, electronics, food scraps, and other environmental projects and services; and to serve as a model for other locations and municipalities. Working with the Low Impact Design Center, a preliminary concept was discussed, and several grant applications were submitted. In the Summer of 2021 the City of Hyattsville was awarded a grant of $15,000 from the Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Cities grant administered by the Chesapeake Bay Trust.
