Summary Background:
The Youth Advisory Committee was a budget initiative for Fiscal Year 23 to provide the City’s youth with an opportunity to guide the City’s programs, services and facilities for youth, to increase the participation of youth voting in local elections, and advise the City Council on the impact of City policies on younger residents.
The proposed members of the Youth Advisory Committee have been recruited from the City’s afternoon Youth Center, which is comprised of youth who attend middle and high school in the City. These young people have attended a rigorous Leadership training program provided by the City’s youth programming team, written personal essays, and interviewed with Council members and City staff.
