Suggested Action:

recommendation

I move that the Mayor and Council authorize an expenditure not to exceed $60,000 to NZI Construction for additional street art as part of the Nicholson Street Pedestrian Safety Improvement project under their existing contract with the City.

end

Summary Background:

In November 2023, Council authorized the Nicholson Street Pedestrian Safety Improvement project. This project installed new crosswalks and several other traffic calming features on Nicholson Street between Heurich Park and Felegy Elementary School to make things safer for pedestrians. The project envisioned street art as part of the installed traffic calming and included a small allowance for the art.

Based on the popularity of recent street art projects and size of the areas slated for installation, additional funding is required to install the areas of painted asphalt. Currently public outreach and design is funded and scheduled to occur in April/May of 2024. The street art install is tentatively scheduled for July/August 2024, pending approval of the additional funding.

Next Steps:

Public outreach and installation of the street art.

Fiscal Impact:

NTE $60,000
