FY25 Council Budget Amendment: Laptops for New Councilmembers

end

Suggested Action:

recommendation

For discussion: I move the Mayor and Council include funding in the FY25 budget for the purchase of laptops for newly elected Councilmembers to allow non-returning Councilmembers to retain their City issued laptops.

end

Summary Background:

City laptops have a replacement lifecycle of 3-4 years. This initiative would allow retiring Councilmembers to retain their City laptop upon completion of their term and provide funding to purchase new laptops as needed for incoming Councilmembers. Laptops donated to retiring Councilmembers would be wiped of all City data prior to release.

Next Steps:

Council discussion.

Fiscal Impact:

$7,000 in FY25 Budget

City Administrator Comments:

Recommend approval after a Councilmember serves for a period of 4 years or more.  Less time would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.  All devices must initially be returned to the IT department for clearing.  Once cleared, they can be returned to transitioning Councilmembers.
